My name is Stephanie K. Steppe and I am the designer and owner of Heirloom Memories, where I offer you speciality heirloom gifts for that precious new baby, for Newlyweds, Mothers and friends. One of my greatest loves is creating those specialty christening gowns and christening outfits you will find on the website. They are truly labors of love for me.
The sewing and creating bug caught me when I was about eight years old and learned what to do with a needle and thread. By the age of 10, my mom introduced me to the sewing machine and taught me to hem flour sack dishtowels. Once the towels were hemmed, I could hand embroider a little design in the corner and mom would use them in the kitchen. My creations were there in the kitchen for all visitors to see! From there I went on to knitting, crocheting, as well as making my own clothes and lots of gifts for friends and relatives.
I was in my late twenties when I made my first christening outfit for my brother’s 1st son. Recently, my grand niece wore that original long gown, slip, and accompanying coat for her naming celebration — another generation has shared in the joy of that outfit! This first christening gown was the start of my heirloom interest and sewing. It gave me a special feeling to know that something I created was so appreciated that many babies and generations would be able to wear it. Since then, I continue to fine-tune my techniques, designs, and appreciation for wonderful natural fabrics so that I can bring these specialty items to you.
